Making jewellery to scorch your eyeballs.

I started Swank in 2005 after finishing a Textile Art degree and realising that no one wanted to buy giant UV sculptures, plus I had no room to make them as I had no studio. Needing an outlet for my creativity and I decided to teach myself to make jewellery as it was small enough to make on the kitchen table and people might want it. I approached a shop in Leeds and on online store and both said yes to stocking my designs! Realising I was on to something, I got myself an Etsy store and the business grew from there.

I started out wanting to make jewellery entirely from pre-used products and made in the UK exclusively. I started out making jewellery from 80s toys, but as the business grew, people who wanted to buy wholesale often wanted a lot of the same design which was very difficult to create from recycled material. I ended up spending most of my time searching for particular types of Lego man rather than designing!

When I learnt to design for laser cutting it was perfect for me. I love plastic and bright colours and the graphic way of designing really suited me. I love that now I can simply draw whatever it is I want on a necklace rather then having to trawl car boot sales to find one!

I am still very much committed to everything being made in the UK, I use a small laser cutting company in the UK, all my packaging is made by small UK companies from recycled materials and I still hand make all the jewellery.

Swank is a one woman show, I do everything, from designing the jewellery and piecing it all together to doing all the promotions, graphics, packaging, web design accounting and shipping! I live in Bristol, UK and hand make everything at home!

Middlesbrough, England

I pay Zap Creatives to laser cut the perspex for my jewellery. I design all the pieces including the vector files for the laser cutting. I send these to Zap who cut the prespex and post it back to me to assemble.

I am very much committed to everything being made in the UK, I use a small laser cutting company in the UK, all my packaging is made by small UK companies from recycled materials and I hand make all the jewellery.

I accept payments through paypal, the payment must be received within one day of purchase.

Shipping

Swank is a UK based company and all items are designed, made in and shipped from the UK. I aim to dispatch orders within 1 - 3 working days. All jewellery is sent in a Swank gold embossed jewellery box or on branded card.

DOMESTIC SHIPPING: Items are shipped by Second Class Royal Mail, and should arrive within 1-3 working days of dispatch date. If you'd like your package to be sent by courier or by registered signed for or special delivery please contact me.

Unfortunately sometimes items get lost in the post. I am not responsible for lost or damaged items unless they are sent via special delivery. In this case I will take it up with the post office and I will send you another item. Please contact me if you would like your order to be send special delivery.

If you need your item more quickly please contact me as by sending the package special delivery the post office guarantees a next day service.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: Items shipped to "Everywhere Else" are shipped via Royal Mail Airmail. Dpending on the country this can take up to 28 working days, however usually items are received between 8 - 14 days after dispatch. Items are definitely not insured through this service. Again if you require your item to be insured please contact me and I will send the jewellery by courier. Normally your item will not be trackable unless you contact me prior ot posting to ask for the parcel to be sent by courier.

Please be aware that sometimes tax will be added by customs at your port. Swank is not responsible for this and it is up to the buyer to contact the customs office in their country to find out about any fees.

Additional policies and FAQs

All jewellery comes packaged in jewellery boxes made from recycled materials and stamped with the Swank logo in blinging gold or in other recycled branded packaging. Cheaper jewellery will not be in a box, if you especially want one for a gift for example please contact me. All jewellery will be posted in used padded envelopes keeping to Swank's ethos on recycling as much as possible.
